Society Debut: A StudentRun Art Exhibition with a Twist

NORMAN, OK (November 7, 2011) – “Society Debut is your run‐of‐the‐mill art exhibition
with a twist,” says School of Art & Art History Junior and F‐Stop Society President Ryan
Harris, “The majority of the pieces are heavily based in media and will allow the audience to
view a moving picture in a static state.”

The University of Oklahoma’s School of Art & Art History is proud to present “Society Debut:
A Media Arts Collection.” The exhibition is hosted by the F‐Stop Society, a student
organization, and will present media‐based work by members of the F‐Stop Society and
School of Art & Art History students.

The exhibition will be on display from November 28th until December 9th in the Lightwell Gallery
with a public reception on Monday, December 5th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The F‐Stop Society is a new student‐lead photography and video organization, which was
formed at the beginning of the Fall 2011 semester.  “Society Debut” is the group’s first large‐
scale project, which will give its members a hands‐on opportunity to experience the process
of creating, organizing, installing and promoting a gallery exhibition. The F‐Stop Society
strives to promote personal growth through peer cooperation and collaborative endeavors
and although the organization is still in its infancy the F‐Stop Society is “already
demonstrating its potential to provide this opportunity and hopefully similar future
opportunities to students that may otherwise be difficult to come by, especially for new
undergraduates in the beginning phases of their college career,” says F‐Stop Officer of
Records Tyson Manning.

The Lightwell Gallery is located in the School of Art & Art History at 520 Parrington Oval in
the OU Arts District. Gallery hours are M‐F from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. For more information about the University of Oklahoma’s School of Art & Art History please visit www.art.ou.edu. For Special accommodations call 405.325.2691 or email art@ou.edu.
